Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has updated a survey guide to protect workers from the risk of asbestos in workplaces. Long time exposure to asbestos has adverse effects on the lungs, causing breathing problems to the workers.
The new survey guide released by HSE replaces the old MDHS 100 guidance guide. It has a lot of information about the risk of asbestos and the subsequent precaution that needs to be taken and it is targeted specifically at builders and maintenance workers.
Until the year 1999, asbestos containing materials was widely used in constructing new and refurbished buildings. After 1999, it was banned. However, about 500,000 non-domestic buildings still have asbestos containing materials, which pose a risk to the public if they are damaged.
HSE’s ‘Asbestos: The Survey Guide’ helps clients to select a competent surveyor for their buildings and teaches them how to refurbish buildings that contain asbestos materials without damaging them. The guide also helps the clients to recognize materials that contain asbestos.
